Chapter 371 Mykel's insight.
Everyone came out of the portal back to the military base, and there wasn't a single reporter or people from the media. They were all looking troubled after they found out it wasn't over yet and there was a sky above the sky. They couldn't reach the first sky and now they had to try to reach the second sky which was the reason they were troubled.
"So many questions with zero answer," Elestria said as she watched everyone walk out of the portal. "We lost at least thirty percent of Gifted, and there would be more to come," she pointed out.
"If there's no answer to all the questions, it means we're not allowed to find the answer, Your Highness," Mykel said as he removed his suit. "Would you like to give a short speech and tell the world what we faced, Your Highness?" He asked as he put his suit on his forearm and looked at Elestria.
"Yes, the world needs to know what we saw and the storm we are going to face next," Elestria answered and then ordered Tristan to bring all the media into the military base.
Everyone was listening to Elestria's speech and encouraged them that they weren't alone and that everyone that came out of the portal was brother and sister. She even decided to join the next raid and would prepare not only for her but for everyone's safety.
It was a short speech, but she showed them and made them realize that they were not only the Hero and Savior but also the reason humanity thrived this far. There was nothing better than boosting everyone's ego and making them proud of themselves.
"Can we speak?" Zachary looked at Mykel smoking his cigarette on his own inside a barrack.
Mykel looked at Zachary, Aston, and Javelin standing next to each other, staring at him with suspicion. He already knew what they were going to say, he then nodded his head and sat comfortably.
"You could clear the rift on your own, but why do you need them to join you? What's your purpose?" Zachary asked.
"Isn't it quite simple? What do you think will happen to them if they don't join the raid? They will be called a coward," Mykel answered so casually. "Of course, I could clear it on my own, but by making them look useless, do you think they would look good in the eyes of the public? No matter what reason and excuse they will use, it will only create discord. Is that what you want?" He asked back.
"You said you want world peace, and this is the only way for people like us and them to stay in harmony. One has to sacrifice for the others, but for us, it's just them and the others since we have proven ourselves useful," Mykel explained.
The three of them never thought of that and realized he wasn't wrong, but at the same time, it was a bit unethical and heartless. He was indeed bringing those people to die, and it wasn't something that could be forgiven.
"And you're planning to kill more of them on the next raid?" Aston asked with his hands clenched.
"You can say whatever you want because you hold no power to be able to clear the next rift. Neither of you can, and none of you understand how the world will perceive us as Gifted in the future. Your words are as light as your responsibilities because you have no burdens on your shoulders," Mykel answered and stared at Aston.@@@@
"I was looking for you anywhere. If it wasn't for Elysande, I wouldn't be able to find you," Elestria said as she walked around the bench and stood next to Mykel. "What are you doing out here on your own?" She sat beside him.
"Enjoying my time alone," Mykel answered. "Is there anything you want to talk about, Your Highness?" He stared into Elestria's eyes.
"I did a bit of research in the library, and I found a bit of information related to the Mother. The most respected Goddess for her love for other Gods and other beings," Elestria said as she looked at the piece of paper that she had been holding. "A powerless Goddess with nothing but her love, she can feel all the emotions of every living being and will ease them by taking the bad emotions from them," she continued.
"And you're her descendant, Your Highness," Mykel said as he stood up. "Now that you know, what do you think she feels right now knowing what you have done the past few months?" He asked and put the pack of cigarettes into his pocket.
Elestria went silent and thought about the bad deeds she had done for her greed. She had a good life, the best life that anyone would want, and yet she wanted more by making other people suffer. After she knew who she was and who her ancestor was, it made her open her eyes and guilt started to crawl on her back.
"But it's your own choice, Your Highness. Are you planning to turn a blind eye to your past, or plan to be a better person? It's not too late, there's no such a thing as too late as long as you're still alive and healthy," Mykel said.
"What are you trying to say?" Elestria asked and looked at Mykel with her eyebrows furrowed. "What do you want?"
"Let's just say I'm the sharpest knife in the world and you're the one who's holding me. You can use me to kill and erase all the people that threaten you or you can use me to cook something delicious for the people around you," Mykel answered. "I have no desire, Your Highness. I'm just a tool, and what I am reflects on how you use me," he added.
"I don't want that kind of answer, Mykel," Elestria stood up. "I need to know what you want. I want to know what you want from me," she asked.
Mykel turned around and looked at Elestria's troubled expression to understand him. Her expression showed the struggle she had inside, and it wasn't only because of his words, it was because of what she found out about the Mother.
"I want you to live without regret and guilt, Your Highness. I want you to be like the Mother, caring and loving figure of this world," Mykel smiled gently at her.
Elestria had never seen Mykel smile like that toward her, and it gave her a sense of relief.
"I want to trust you, Mykel. I want you to know that," Elestria said with a serious expression.
"Then I will not betray your trust in me, Your Highness," Mykel bowed his head. "May I accompany you back to your chamber, Your Highness?" He asked.
"Yes, you may," Elestria smiled and wrapped her arm around Mykel's.
