Chapter 1292 - 856: It’s Snowing (Part 2)
"Yes."The cups stacked together once more.
Xu Shuang glanced at them again, feeling less shy. She had grown accustomed to it, her mind wandering to other matters.
When they landed, it was already late at night.
Zhao Yiqiu was already waiting with a cheerful smile to pick them up, driving them back with a carefree attitude.
"Boss, where to?"
"Let’s go home," Xu Shuang said, glancing at Jiang Nian and explaining, "It’s too late now."
Indeed, the dorms had no curfew.
But...
The roommates were asleep.
Jiang Nian had no objections; although he had places he could stay, he still followed them.
Nothing much was said that night; they hurriedly rushed to their early morning classes.
Each went their separate ways.
Sitting in the large classroom, Jiang Nian rested his head on his textbook, planning to reply to a few messages before the teacher arrived.
Suddenly, Da Chao sat down next to him.
"Jiang Nian."
"What’s up?" He naturally closed his phone, spotting his other two roommates and Deng Yi approaching from afar.
They got along well enough to attend classes together.
"It’s a shame you missed the mixer yesterday," Da Chao said. "The girls from their dorm are quite nice."
It took two months to realize that the girls from their own class’s dorm were nice?
That’s university life for you.
If someone knows your name, that’s considered good. The big guy used to complain about not remembering classmates’ names.
Someone would speak to him, and he’d struggle to remember the name, only able to say, Ma Guojun, you’re still as memorable as ever.
"Morning," Brother Bao Song greeted and sat down, "It’s so cold outside today."
"It’s going to get colder soon," Yang Jingfan said.
Deng Yi sat down, then turned her head. Unlike the two, whose chatter was mostly fluff, she got straight to the point.
"Did you go on a date yesterday?"
Jiang Nian was taken aback.
"A date?"
His imagination could be a bit more... vivid.
"Sort of," Jiang Nian said vaguely. "I was quite busy over the weekend, so I took a stroll around West Lake."
Upon hearing this, his three roommates fell silent.
"Haha, wow," Da Chao stood up with his textbook. "Oh no, my nearsightedness is acting up."
As he spoke, he turned to the other two.
"Fanzi, would you like to join me? Let’s sit up front and soak up the rays of knowledge."
"Sure... sure," Brother Bao Song stood up.
Yang Jingfan followed them without a second thought.
The seats quickly emptied out, leaving a few vacant spots. Deng Yi gave him a long look and couldn’t help but press her lips together.
"Well... that’s great; I’m really envious of you."
"Thank you." Jiang Nian looked at her, even smiling in response, "The scenery over there is indeed quite nice."
This smile, in her eyes, seemed somewhat cruel, and she couldn’t maintain her calm, turning away abruptly.
Deng Yi: "Mm."
Jiang Nian remained unfazed; he was never one to feel awkward. After the morning class, Da Chao returned.
"How’s it going?"
"Huh?"
"The committee secretary, she..." Da Chao said, "She seemed a bit down yesterday when you didn’t show up."
"I actually have a girlfriend," Jiang Nian said bluntly. "Just cleared things up, so it’s all good now."
"Wow?" Da Chao, though somewhat prepared, still asked eagerly, "Since when?"
"Quite a while ago."
"Ah, that’s really unfortunate," Da Chao’s mouth twitched, "Jiang Nian, you truly are a good guy."
Jiang Nian: "???"
"Huh?"
"It’s nothing; I truly admire you," Da Chao said a few more words, then excitedly ran off.
Jiang Nian: "..."
The "good guy" label, it was quite absurd.
......
As time flowed by, it was already mid-December. Caught unaware, the exam week was approaching.
In half a month, classes would stop for review.
The dorm relationships remained the same; the weather was getting colder, and his two roommates didn’t feel like moving much.
Brother Bao Song, once a slender young man, had gained ten pounds in the blink of an eye. Da Chao remained tall and imposing as ever.
Yang Jingfan was unshakable, attending self-study sessions or visiting the library, rain or shine.
Another day, another class ended.
Jiang Nian asked Da Chao to help carry some books back to the dorm while he prepared to head toward his off-campus apartment.
Suddenly, he felt a weight on his shoulder.
"Hey!"
Xu Qianqian jumped onto Jiang Nian’s back from behind, like a plump snowman.
She wriggled, trying to climb onto the wall.
"Cough, cough! Wow!"
Jiang Nian pulled her off, clutching her thick red scarf. "Xu Qianqian, are you trying to murder me?"
"What’s the problem?" Xu Qianqian asked, justified, giving him a couple of taps on his down jacket.
"Conan, the case of the murder in the snow."
"It’s not even snowing yet." Jiang Nian smoothed his collar, leading her outside, "It’s not even below freezing."
"The weather forecast said it would snow today."
"Nonsense."
"It’s true!!"
The two walked side by side, gradually disappearing into the crowd. In no time, they reached the apartment. Before opening the door, she asked.
"Where’s Xiao Song?"
"Still in class; our classes are mostly staggered," Xu Qianqian said. "You just have fewer classes."
"As long as I graduate, that’s all that matters," Jiang Nian said indifferently.
"Hmph!!"
In the afternoon, Xiao Song arrived as well, carrying books in her arms and wrapped in a large, gray-white scarf.
Her face was buried within it, her voice muffled.
"It’s so cold outside."
"Come in and let’s have hotpot," Jiang Nian said, organizing things, "Wash your hands; there’s hot water in the kitchen."
"Mm."
Xu Qianqian was in the kitchen, wearing rubber gloves while cutting vegetables. When asked why, she simply said it was cold and refused to touch any water.
"Xiyun, you’re here!"
"Come on, I have something great to show you!!" she said excitedly, taking off her gloves.
She pulled Song Xiyun into the living room.
Domestic chores were done to the best of her ability.
Jiang Nian: "....."
He was a bit speechless but still let Xu Qianqian be. He didn’t want to criticize too much; it wouldn’t end well.
The goal was to create as many warm memories as possible.
However, he didn’t have high hopes for using these as redemption tokens, just thinking about doing more.
At five o’clock, surprised exclamations echoed from the balcony!!
"It’s snowing!!"
"Jiang Nian!"
"Come out and look, quick!!"
Jiang Nian left the kitchen, casually wiping his hands on his apron, and saw snowflakes fluttering down from the balcony.
It was really snowing.
"Do you want to go down and see?"
"Go down?" Xu Qianqian hesitated for a moment; it was very cold outside, "Xiyun, do you want to go?"
"Mm, I want to take some pictures," Song Xiyun nodded.
"And you?" Xu Qianqian turned to Jiang Nian, who was in his apron. "Are you going?"
"I’ll finish up here and head down in a bit," he said. "Take an umbrella, don’t get wet."
"Okay, okay, got it."
After the two girls left, Jiang Nian’s expression changed. He took out his phone and started replying to messages and returning calls.
Zhang Ningzhi was on a video call, seemingly just finished with class, excitedly walking in the snow with her palm up.
"Look! It’s snowing!"
"I see," Jiang Nian responded, "Where’s Yao Beibei? Didn’t she wait for you to finish class?"
"She doesn’t have class," Zhang Ningzhi complained. "We still have class in the evening, but she’ll accompany me."
"That’s nice."
After chatting for a bit and ending the call, he received a message from Li Qingrong, containing only a picture of the snow.
Jiang Nian thought for a moment and sent back a photo of snowflakes.
"Busy these days?"
Li Qingrong: "Not too bad."
"Building a snowman?"
Li Qingrong: "Mm, if the snow gets heavier, we can build one."
"No problem, I can gather snow from different places," Jiang Nian replied. "How about I visit you at the Science Institute tomorrow?"
"Okay."
Replying to one person after another, Jiang Nian found this kind of moment the most headache-inducing, busy beyond measure.
After about ten minutes, he finished dealing with the messages.
"Phew~~"
"Piece of cake."
Regaining his calm and collected demeanor, Jiang Nian tidied up in the kitchen, then grabbed an umbrella and headed downstairs.
In the snowy field, he searched for quite a while before vaguely spotting two snowmen.
"Why didn’t you bring an umbrella?"
"Shielding from the snow ruins the feeling," Xu Qianqian shot him a look. "Do you know how rare it is for Zhen Nan to have snow?"
"How would I know? I’m not a meteorologist."
"Hmph!!"
Xu Qianqian kicked him lightly and ran off with Song Xiyun into the distance, as three small snowmen took shape.
Standing in place, Jiang Nian thought of Chen Yunyun and the others.
It’s snowing.
