Chapter 21 Silver Creek Town
Chapter 21 Silver Creek Town
The camel pulled the carriage slowly to the fortified post in front of the town.
Dorothy stood on the ground, looking up at the city walls in front of her.
"Isn't this a town? Why are there city walls here?"
Elor tossed the toll to the guard and waited for the guard to inspect the carriage. She then said to Dorothy beside her:
"Because it's developed well, there are many magic shops here that sell magic items and weapons, so it's quite prosperous. Of course, the inspections are also quite strict."
While the two were chatting, the guards finished inspecting the carriage.
"Alright, let's go in."
Urged on by the guards, Dorothy and Elor quickly boarded the carriage, and the camel, urged on by Elor, pulled the carriage into Silver Creek Town.
Elor brandished a riding whip.
"Let's park the camel at the inn first, and then go to the item shop to exchange the magic cores for gold coins."
As Elor said this, he glanced down at the map.
She didn't seem to be very familiar with this place either.
Elor noticed Dorothy's gaze. "I've only been here once before, and I'm not from the Kingdom of Sauron; I just traveled here."
Dorothy nodded and said, "I see. So, the mages in the City of Apprentices travel when they're about to break through to a higher level?"
Elor shook his head and said, "It depends on the person. Some people think it's better to train in the mage tower, while others think it's better to come out and relax and experience some adventures."
Elor pointed to her face.
"I'm the type of person who feels the need for external stimulation."
The two found an inn, checked into their rooms, and parked their pack animals and carriage.
They took the magic core to the magic item shop.

As the door to the magic item shop was pushed open, the wind chimes hanging on the door rang once.
The shop owner, who was sleeping on the counter, looked up and gazed at the door.
"Welcome, sir."
Dorothy looked at the burly man with a lazy expression, a full beard, and small round glasses.
This outfit doesn't seem to fit the magic item shop at all.
She had thought he would be the more refined and gentle type.
Elor pushed Dorothy's shoulders with both hands, and the two came to the counter.
"Boss, we're here to sell magic cores."
"Oh? A magic core? Okay, wait a minute."
When the shopkeeper heard that they were there to sell magic cores, he bent down and rummaged under the counter for a while before bringing out an instrument that looked like a microscope.
"Alright, take out the magic core."
Dorothy took out all her magic cores and placed them on the counter.
"oh!"
The boss let out a gasp, but said nothing. Instead, he picked up the magic core, placed it under the instrument he had brought out, and began to examine it.
"Hmm, a black-backed boar's magic core. Although some of the earth-attribute magic power inside has been lost, it's still well preserved. 15 gold coins."
Then the boss picked up the next magic core and continued to examine it.
"The Frostwolf's magic core is very powerful, worth 18 gold coins."
After each one was identified.
The shopkeeper looked up at Dorothy and said, "Little girl, that's 285 gold coins in total."
Dorothy's eyes widened slightly when she heard the number.
So many!
This was much more than she had originally expected.
When Dorothy came out of the magic item shop, she still felt a sense of unreality looking at the bulging, heavy bag in her hand.
Just a month ago, I was complaining about having only 10 copper coins, but now I have so many gold coins!
Eloille blinked as she looked at Dorothy, who was staring blankly at the bag full of gold coins.
"Dorothy, what's wrong?"
Dorothy shook her head slightly. "This is the first time I've ever seen so many gold coins together. I never knew gold coins were so heavy!"
Elur placed her hand under the money bag and weighed it in her hand.
"It's quite heavy."
However, after saying that, she added calmly, "But after we get to the City of Apprentices, we'll have to pay the tuition, buy a staff, a spellbook, and a mage's robe, plus the cost of lodging, and I doubt we'll have much left."
"..."
The more Elle spoke, the wider Dorothy's eyes widened.
Dorothy lifted the money bag with her left hand and poked at the gold coins inside with her right, her voice rising slightly.
"Aren't these gold coins enough to live in the City of Apprentices for five years?"
To everyone's surprise, after Dorothy finished speaking, Elle clutched her stomach and let out a soft laugh.
"Haha, five years? Five days is more like it."
"..."
Five days is about right.
These words struck Dorothy like a bolt from the blue.
"W-what, what do you mean? Only five days?"
Dorothy started stuttering at this point.
With so many gold coins, he could live a carefree life.
How come, according to Elur, it only takes five days to spend all the money in the City of Apprentices?
The rate of inflation has made it impossible for Dorothy's brain to function properly.
Has the world changed without my knowledge? Are gold coins no longer worth anything?
"I have so many gold coins..."
Dorothy still couldn't believe that all her wealth combined could only last five days in the City of Apprentices.
Dorothy stared intently at Elor, wanting him to explain himself.
Elor looked up, avoiding Dorothy's eyes.
"In the City of Apprentices, gold coins can only be used to buy some daily necessities or consumables, such as mage robes, magic scrolls, and staves."
"In the city of apprentices, knowledge is the most precious thing."
"We use the city's specific currency, credits, in the Apprentice City."
"Credits can basically only be earned by attending classes at the Mage Tower."
Dorothy blinked.
"Weren't we talking about not having enough gold coins? How did we get back to talking about academic credits?"
"Wait, you just said that under normal circumstances, credits..."
Dorothy reacted quickly; her senses were heightened by money at that moment, and she immediately understood upon hearing that specific word.
Elor nodded, giving him a look that said, "You're so smart."
"That's right, apprentices can earn credits from their teachers, and these credits can be traded among apprentices."
At this point, Elor's voice suddenly lowered.
Even though she wasn't in the City of Apprentices now, she became more careful with her words.
"In your spare time, one credit can be exchanged for 50 gold coins. However, when facing an assessment, one credit can be exchanged for more than 100 gold coins."
Boom!
At that moment, Dorothy truly felt as if her brain had been struck by lightning.
Academic credits are incredibly valuable!
"Are academic credits really that valuable?"
"Since it's such a valuable item, what exactly can it be used for?"
As Elor just said, credits are a specific currency in the City of Apprentices.
Dorothy is now very curious about what it can do.
Elor extended his index finger.
"First of all, in the City of Apprentices, you will definitely need to learn magic, and its primary function is to purchase magic books."
That is indeed very important.
"Then, you can attend classes taught by more advanced instructors to help deepen your understanding of magic."
"Other uses include exchanging for more advanced meditation techniques, etc. In short, they have many uses. You can experience them for yourself after you arrive in the City of Apprentices."
