Chapter 200: The True Final Boss (5)
Chapter 200: The True Final Boss (5)
Max advanced, step by step.
Dorian’s support magic coursed through his entire body like an endless stream of energy.
The gale generated by the black bird continued slamming into him head-on, but it was no longer enough to stop him.
His boots gripped the ground.
His cape whipped violently in the wind.
And even so, he kept moving forward.
"Max!"
He heard Dorian shout from behind.
"Keep it up!"
Max raised a hand without looking back.
He couldn’t afford to lose focus.
The bird was furious, its massive wings battering the air.
Its dark eyes locked onto him.
And then it attacked.
The creature launched itself forward.
Its gigantic claws came crashing down directly toward Max’s head.
"Here it comes!"
Max reacted instantly.
He raised his shield.
The claws slammed into the metal.
The impact was so powerful that his legs sank several centimeters into the ground.
But he held firm and counterattacked.
"Take this!"
His hammer traced a brutal arc.
The weapon struck one of the bird’s front legs directly.
The sound of bones shattering echoed through the room.
The creature let out a piercing screech.
One of its legs was completely destroyed.
"Yes!"
Max shouted.
The bird staggered backward.
But something worse was happening.
Will had reached the end of the seal.
Only one detail remained.
One final sacrifice.
The false Vesper slowly raised his head.
His eyes gleamed, and he smiled.
"It’s done."
The bird let out a screech, as if it understood perfectly.
Will raised a hand.
"Come."
The injured creature dragged itself toward him.
Max felt a chill run down his spine.
"What is he doing?"
Dorian didn’t seem to understand either.
"No idea."
Then it happened.
Will pulled out a ceremonial knife he had been carrying.
And walked toward the chained caveman.
The giant was still unconscious.
Thara’s eyes widened.
"No..."
Will raised the knife and, without hesitation...
Brought it down.
The caveman’s head fell to the ground.
Blood sprayed everywhere, soaking the final section of the enormous magic circle.
The seal was completed.
And then...
The magic circle began to glow.
A dark energy exploded from its center.
"What the hell?!"
Max shouted.
The darkness began to spin in on itself.
Like a black hole.
Will was caught immediately.
His body was lifted by the force of the energy.
"Will!"
Thara screamed.
Vesper’s body vanished into the vortex.
Then the same thing happened to the caveman’s corpse.
Then to the black bird.
And finally to all the metallic pieces of the destroyed android.
The energy absorbed them.
Crushed them.
Mixed them together.
Twisted them.
Fused them.
"Will!"
Thara screamed again.
But this time, tears began streaming down her cheeks.
"Will, stop! Please!"
Her legs gave out and she fell to her knees.
Dorian rushed to her side immediately.
He held her by the shoulders.
"Don’t look."
He said softly.
But she couldn’t tear her eyes away.
Because she knew she was watching the only family she had left disappear forever.
Even if it wasn’t really Vesper anymore.
Even if it wasn’t completely Will anymore.
It was still someone important to her.
And now that person was being consumed by something monstrous.
Max stared at the vortex, growing more confused and more nervous by the second.
"What the hell is happening?"
He asked.
His voice barely came out.
"I never saw anything like this in the game."
Dorian couldn’t look away either.
"I’ve never seen anything like this in my adventures either."
But he shook his head.
The energy continued to grow.
Larger.
More intense.
More unstable.
The walls began to tremble.
The floor vibrated.
Even the air itself seemed to be breaking apart.
And then...
Everything exploded.
BOOOOOOM!!
A shockwave tore through the room.
Max raised his shield.
Dorian shielded Thara.
Chunks of stone were sent flying.
Dust swallowed everything.
And for several seconds...
No one could see anything.
Only darkness.
Only smoke.
Only silence.
Then...
Within the cloud of dust, something began to move.
A step.
Heavy.
Slow.
Painful.
Max felt a chill crawl down his spine.
"What is that?"
He asked.
No one answered.
Because everyone was staring.
The figure slowly emerged from the smoke.
And it was horrifying.
Far worse than anyone could have imagined.
It had the black bird’s enormous wings.
But they were deformed.
Twisted.
Poorly attached to its back.
Its arms were the caveman’s.
Gigantic.
Covered in grotesque muscles.
Its legs ended in monstrous claws.
Metal parts protruded from all over its body.
Fragments of the android were embedded in its flesh.
Cables emerged from its skin.
Steel plates pierced muscles and bones.
Its skin was gray, like Vesper’s.
And long white hair fell over the abomination.
The same white hair as the drow.
The creature took a step forward.
And screamed.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!"
A scream of pain.
Of suffering.
Of agony.
Its wings flailed violently.
Its muscles trembled.
The metallic fragments screeched and grated.
Nothing fit together.
Nothing was where it belonged.
It was a being created by force.
A mistake.
The creature screamed again.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!"
Max swallowed hard.
Slowly, he raised his hammer.
And stared at the abomination.
’Now this looks like a final boss.’
He thought.
’A real one.’
At that moment...
A window appeared before his eyes.
The system interface.
The same one that had accompanied him ever since he arrived in Eldoria.
And this time it glowed with a strange intensity.
Then a message appeared.
[The main quest has been updated.]
Max’s eyes widened.
The text continued writing itself.
[New objective detected.]
And finally, a new line appeared.
One that made even him feel a knot form in his stomach.
[Defeat the Final Boss: Will, the Fusion of Otherworldly Beasts.]
The message remained floating before him.
Like a sentence.
Max slowly dismissed the window.
And looked at the monster once more.
Will was still screaming.
Twisting.
Suffering.
As his black wings battered the air.
As mechanical parts sparked and crackled.
As the caveman’s muscles contracted unnaturally.
As Vesper’s face slowly disappeared beneath the deformation.
Max tightened his grip on the handle of his hammer.
And took a deep breath.
Because there were no more doubts.
No more mysteries.
No more suspects.
Only one thing remained.
To defeat the monster standing before them.
The true final boss.
