Chapter 469: Gift Of Kindness: Dee3
Chapter 469: Gift Of Kindness: Dee3
"Shit, you aren’t planning to go on another killing spree, are you? Young man, get yourself under control. Or maybe it’s best if you don’t meet Dee3 and just admire her from afar like you have been doing so far," Maeve asked, knowing that for someone as intelligent as Kidd it shouldn’t be hard to figure out how to lead his target out of the crowd and handle him silently."What do you mean?" Kidd asked, exerting the fierce bloodlust of a beast about to pounce on its prey, causing the surrounding temperature to fall by a few degrees and sound eerily quiet.
"I know you think you and Dee3 are the same, but you are not. The two of you are the most intelligent people I have met in my life, but you guys are totally opposite to each other.
Your parents’ accident is tragic, but what Dee3 has been through is way worse. The government at least accepted you as a human being, but they still don’t think of Dee3 as one. Compared to what she has been through, your life is a cakewalk.
But unlike you, she didn’t choose a path of vengeance and chaos, but a path of forgiveness and harmony. To live and let live. Believe me, she had a lot more reason than you have to seek vengeance, but she embraced kindness with ease. Actually, she made it seem like kindness came naturally to her. Similar to how you do with murder.
She developed her curse cyborg tech to selflessly help those in need of it. But you developed your curse droid tech to kill people, indiscriminately and without any meaning to it. Wherever she goes, there is peace and harmony, but wherever you go, there is only death and destruction.
Dee3 treats animals, birds, and insects as her equals, let alone fellow humans. You, on the other hand, don’t even consider your fellow human beings as your equals, forget other beings. She finds joy and fulfillment in helping others, be it humans, animals, or insects. While you find joy and fulfillment in killing other beings without any discrimination.
Kidd, give this some thought. There is a reason they had Dee3 help develop this country and its curse community, invested and supported all her ventures without question. Even assigned her the highest level of security after the president, his family, and a few other V.V.I.P. officials.
Meanwhile, they are using you, a six-year-old orphan, to do their dirty work around the globe. They don’t even invest or support your projects unless it benefits them or you promise huge returns. They don’t dare consider your advice on updating their curse tech. Not to mention, they only assigned you a single Void-tier handler to monitor you and won’t permit you to have a Void-tier curse array formation to guard you and your lab.
They aren’t willing to consider Dee3 as a human yet they trust and value her opinions. However, when it comes to you, they would rather take the risk dying of poisoning than take the antidote from you.
Kidd, I think by now you get what I am trying to warn you about. So, I will conclude by advising you, ’Never meet your heroes; you’ll only be disappointed.’ Before you do anything, think it through," Maeve said, without sparing Kidd’s feelings.
If it were any other six-year-old, Maeve might have cuddled their feelings without resorting to such harsh words, but it was Kidd. He had come up with 100 ways to destroy the entire world back when he was still a four-year-old. The psychiatrist assigned to treat and guide him all took their lives after he was done playing with their minds with his depraved take on life and death.
Honestly, the higher ups were scared of what he was capable of now, let alone what he could be once he grew up. Therefore, instead of declaring him a national asset, they used him as their laundry guy. Knowing that it was impossible for them to stop him from killing, they chose to guide him whom to kill and whom not to by trying to introduce him to morals and help him develop a code. Clearly, they were failing miserably.
Maeve had gotten used to Kidd due to their occasional meetings and cooperation back in Capital. But back when they had just gotten to know each other, his gaze gave her the creeps. It was akin to the one you give to a flower before you pluck it for your amusement and throw it away when it no longer amuses you. However, over time, with her skills, she had managed to be recognized by him. Now his gaze looked at her like when you see your pet do a trick you taught it, on your command without any mistake.
Regardless of what Kidd thought of her, he couldn’t ignore her rank and authority. Knowing that comforted her. Especially when she was alone with him as she couldn’t help but imagine him going full psycho on her if she were to say one wrong word or do one wrong move.
"What are you trying to say, Madam Maeve? Dee3 is the Angel and I am the Devil, is that it? She is the force of everything good, and I am the force of everything bad," Kidd asked Maeve indifferently. If he was offended by her comparison. However, Maeve didn’t care. Instead of giving him a direct answer, she asked, "Come on, Kidd. Do you want me to break it to you? Haven’t I been clear enough?"
"..." Kidd continued to glance at Maeve indifferently without answering her.
"I don’t know how much more obvious I can make it, but, alright, here goes nothing.
Kidd, take your current mission for example. I warned you that Ace was your ’idol’ Dee3’s friend and killing him now of all times would devastate her. And what did you choose? You plan to go on a killing spree just to get to your target, Ace, and finish your work. I am not judging you for it.
But do you know what Dee3 chose when Ex-General Ulysses threatened to kill wounded allied soldiers if she didn’t use her curse ability to kill the captured and wounded enemies? She said no. She said she was there to build a medical bay and treat the wounded, not to kill.
Then she went to build the world’s biggest underground maze equipped with a void-tier curse array in record time to fight Ulysses off while hiding the wounded soldiers, allies and enemies alike, in her dungeon, until the reinforcements and other allied forces arrived.
She is the most timid person I have known, yet she fathomed the courage and strength to fight one of the worst warlords our country has to offer when she needed it.
Kidd, you know how brilliant Dee3 is from her research and books. But if you want to know what kind of person Dee3 is, just ask half of the people gathered here for her here tonight. They’ll tell you the wildest stories you’ve ever heard, and I promise you each one is true and not exaggerated.
Her gift of kindness has changed so many lives for the better that it became a force that even deterred the government. Even though they declared her as a most wanted curse criminal and refused her the basic rights, they didn’t dare to truly go after her.
Kidd, if you were alive back then, you would have seen the day the majority of the curse community came together to bring the government to a crippling halt. All because of one person who refused to let the world change her.
Kidd, are you sure the Dee3 you idolize and want to meet is the one we all know and love? How sure are you that the vengeance and hatred fueling your body will not burn away under her kind eyes?" Maeve excitedly asked the six-year-old standing before her with a fanatic twinkle in her eyes whenever she spoke the name Dee3.
