Chapter 110: Don’t Let It Take Me
Chapter 110: Don’t Let It Take MeSteve’s heart pounded in his chest as Fiona’s eyes widened in fear, flickering from side to side as she scanned the shadows.
The forest air was thick with the low, guttural bellows echoing from every direction. They were certain of it now—surrounded. Her gaze snapped back to Steve,
Turning its back, it began to walk away, its steps thumping against the forest floor.
Thump.
Thump.
Thump.
The sound of safety returning, one step at a time. Each reverberation of its heavy feet brought a little more hope.
Eventually, the footsteps faded completely, absorbed by the dense woods.
It was gone, without a doubt. They had made it through.
Sigh
Whew
The magic guard exhaled a sharp breath and leaned to the side of the rocky pillar where she’d been hiding, her body trembling. She shut her eyes tight, still trying to keep herself steady. Her arms were shaking; she was still clutching the weapons, but her knuckles were pale.
She opened her eyes and looked back at Steve.
Steve parted his lips to whisper something, maybe a name, maybe a thanks.
But before the words could leave his throat—
CRACK!
The rock the magic guard was leaning against was suddenly yanked backward with terrifying force—ripped away like paper. She fell back with a startled cry, her weapons clattering across the forest floor.
Her scream caught in her throat as her eyes widened in horror.
A massive beast stood above her.
There was no time to think. No time to scream. Just fear—raw, electric fear that stole every ounce of control.
She tried to move, in an attempt to unsheath her blade, but the goblin grabbed her with one sweeping motion, its thick hand wrapping around her waist as if she were weightless. She screamed now, loud and shrill, the sound piercing the air like glass.
"No! NOO!! Steve! Fiona! Help!"
Fiona surged up instinctively, her fists clenched, teeth bared, ready to charge.
But Steve—Steve was faster.
He grabbed her arm with one hand, and with the other, covered her mouth before she could scream. Her whole body trembled with desperation.
The magic guard’s voice rang out again, frantic, broken.
"No! Please! Don’t let it take me! Please, I don’t want to die!"
Steve held Fiona back with all his strength. She was fighting, clawing, trying to break free, her eyes filled with utter confusion.
’Huh?...Stevien? What’re you...What’re you doing??’
But Steve was well aware. Any movement, any sound... and they’d all be dead.
The goblin stared down at the magic guard, her legs thrashing in the air. Her eyes glistened, wide and panicked, her voice nothing but pure, shrieking horror.
And then—it began to squeeze.
Its fingers wrapped tighter and tighter around her body. She cried louder, her voice rising to a pitch of agony. Her body jerked. Her arms flailed...and then-
Snap.
Blood sprayed across the goblin’s chest and splattered on the earth below. The scream stopped instantly.
The magic guard’s body went limp.
And then it dropped her.
Her lifeless form crumpled to the ground with a dull, final thud.
Steve and Fiona could only stare, mouths agape, hearts broken.
She had been alive just moments ago.
And now—
Nothing.
Just...silence.
Thump.
Thump.
Thump.
Following the recent ruckus from the magic guard’s death-
The sound of more footsteps—many this time. Dozens. Maybe more. Reverberating through the woods, coming from every direction. The clan. The goblin clan.
They were coming...and there was no where left to go.
